Welcome, Commissioner Taylor!

Join us in extending a warm West Mason welcome to Mr. Larry Taylor as the West Mason Board of Fire Commissioners' newest member.

Larry has been a resident of Mason County since 1980, after moving up from Southern California in search of his beloved rain. After retiring from forty years as a printmaker, he settled in as a woodturner and has now been selling his turnings at the Olympia Farmers Market for seventeen years.

As a Skokomish Valley resident, Larry’s interest in the Fire Department came with District Nine's proposed merger into District Sixteen. A bit of investigation convinced him that this was an excellent idea. He worked to convince local voters of the benefits of the merger. The expansion of the training and EMT participation under Chief Welander, after becoming the West Mason Fire District, has proven to be an excellent outcome.

Larry has been following and participating in all of West Mason Fire District proceedings since the 2018 merger, including participating in their budget discussions, strategic planning sessions, and twice-monthly meetings.

Lawrence (Larry) Taylor was sworn in by Fire Commissioner Bill Reed at an open public meeting on Thursday, March 11th, 2021, to fill an opening on the board following Commissioner Shelley George's resignation on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.

We wish Ms. George the best on her upcoming move to Texas and thank her for her years of service as a Fire Commissioner for Mason County Fire District 9 and West Mason Fire.

We welcome and encourage community member involvement in many roles, from sharing your voice at commissioner meetings to fighting fire and everything in between. If you'd like to learn about ways to become more involved in supporting your local fire district, contact us at (360) 426-7343, admin@mcfd16.com, or through the website's contact form at www.westmasonfire.org.
